Today Faith in Love wrote to Mr Secretary-General H.E. Antionio Guterres of the United Nations New York Headquarters to confirm our support of the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. With this, we express our commitment to making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of the strategy, culture and day-to-day operations of our foundation. We wish to make a clear statement of this commitment to our stakeholders and the general public, and to make unequivocal our role in manifesting the Sustainable Development Goals and broader development targets of the United Nations. We support public accountability and transparency, and the work of business participants as they implement and report on their sustainability efforts.
Joining as a signatory to the UN Global Compact marks a significant milestone in our collaboration with the United Nations. While we joined their Being LGBTI in Asia UNDP program ten years ago, our efforts to promote human dignity and equality in the region has proved strenuous over the past three years of COVID19 general pandemic. We had sent our volunteers to be part of the UN Volunteers programme in Bangkok back then, and strengthened Hong Kong institutions and reduced inequalities through increased access to education and information. As gradually we step out of COVID19 lockdowns and the shifts in human practices in its wake, we are renewing our promise of a better future for future generations and looking for practical action plans to make these goals our reality.
As the world shifts from CSR as a “nice to have” component of major businesses to the current focus on ESG as a fundamental part of investor relations and fundraising, the UN Global Compact provides a solid foundation to educate a variety of audiences about sustainability and implement partnerships with a variety of civil society stakeholders.
