Gigi Chao
G our founder

We all call her “ah G” fondly, as pilot training taught her that while hierarchical lines of reporting may be good for handling immediate emergencies, it’s less good for reporting potential problems and harnessing creativity, the latter of which she believes to be at the core of our humanity.  G founded Faith in Love in 2008 with a vision for service in humility and simple giving.   Growing up in Hong Kong of the 1980s, she was often confused by wealth disparity she witnessed in society, and struggled to fit-in both to the high-society life that she saw from her father’s family, and the grass-roots communities that saw her maternal cousins find simple happiness and yet always struggled day to day making ends meet.  G scoured the earth looking for answers traveling extensively as a volunteer in her formative years; Malawi with World Vision, Alaska with Habitat for Humanity, Hunan with Sowers’ Action.   As she later found modest success in her career, she knew she wanted to be hands-on with community work to better understand them from the heart.

Education

At the turn of the century, G graduated from the University of Manchester, School of Architecture, where she had most enjoyed learning building technology, environmental impact of the built environment and architectural history. Subsequently, she worked with prominent British Architect and Urban Designer Sir Terry Farrell in London and Hong Kong where she participated in projects such as Kowloon Station, Tsuen Wan West Station, and various design competition submissions for prominent iconic buildings in mainland China. An advocate of life-long learning, in 2017 she obtained her LLB from the University of London, and studied PCLL in FinTech: Law and Regulation; payments, alternative financing and cryptoassets.  In 2022 she also completed her professional certificate in coding at MIT x Pro, and henceforth fell in love with coding and open source software.

Besides a background in architecture and construction, her multi-faceted experience in management and service was acquired from an early career in  marketing and retail services in Hong Kong and China, during which she handled key accounts such as Rolex, Audemars Piquet, Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mont Blanc, L’Oreal.

Career

Besides her commitments at Faith in Love, she is also specialist private sector adviser for the United Nations Development Programme Being LGBTI in Asia.  At her day job G manages a family real estate development business with projects across Asia and advises global organisations on diversity, inclusion, and ESG business responsibility in building social capital.
