Art Basel Hong Kong is organized into diverse exhibition areas— “Galleries,” “Insights,” “Discoveries,” “Echoes,” and “Film,” among others—each presenting distinct perspectives and curatorial visions. Together, these sections showcase large-scale works, historical narratives from the Asia-Pacific region, and contemporary practices from 1900 to the present day, reflecting a commitment to representing multiple artistic voices and cultural traditions. The curatorial project “Five Elements” particularly exemplifies this inclusive vision and aligns closely with our work with Faith in Love.
Encounters is a curatorial exhibition dedicated to monumental artistic practice. Featuring sculpture, installation, and performance works by international artists, the exhibition transcends conventional art fair presentation to create immersive, experiential environments.
Drawing upon the Five Elements—a foundational framework in classical East Asian philosophy (Ether, Water, Fire, Earth, and Wood)—Encounters organizes its presentation thematically. Each elemental section facilitates in-depth conversations about cultural identity, aesthetic values, and our relationship to contemporary realities, inviting audiences to engage with both historical wisdom and urgent contemporary questions.
Ari Bayuaji is an Indonesian-Canadian artist whose installations celebrate global material cultures and cross-cultural artistic practice. Drawing on found objects collected from communities worldwide, Bayuaji’s work challenges Western art hierarchies by revealing the overlooked artistic value in everyday life across diverse cultural contexts.
His practice operates at the intersection of cultural preservation and contemporary critique. By transforming discarded or vernacular objects into immersive installations, Bayuaji demonstrates how artistic innovation emerges through authentic dialogue with multiple traditions—honoring cultural heritage while addressing urgent contemporary issues.

《藝聚空間》：五行之智，當代之聲
展覽的文化根基
《藝聚空間》是一場將東亞古典宇宙觀與當代全球藝術實踐相融的策展實驗。透過匯集國際藝術家的雕塑、裝置與行為藝術，展覽刻意超越傳統藝術博覽會的邊界，建構出一個邀請觀眾沉浸、對話、反思的文化空間。
展覽以「五行」（空、水、火、土、木）——東亞古典哲學中最具代表性的宇宙觀框架——作為策展的軸心。五行不是靜止的分類系統，而是動態的、相互關聯的力量。透過這個文化透鏡，展覽的每個元素單元都成為一個開啟問題的起點：我們如何在變動的世界中維持身份認同？美學價值的標準是如何被建立與挑戰的？我們如何與當下的共同現實相遇、相處、相思？
在這裡，古典智慧與當代關切不是對立的，而是相互照亮的。歷史深度與現代緊迫感在五行的框架內對話，邀請觀眾思考：傳統思想如何能幫助我們理解今日的複雜世界？
印尼裔加拿大藝術家阿里·貝瓦吉的創作完美詮釋了展覽的文化理想。他透過蒐集來自世界各地社區的日常物件——工具、工藝品、廢棄物——創作沉浸式裝置，直接挑戰西方藝術機制所建立的等級制度。
在創作中，沒有「高級」與「低級」物件之分。每一件物件都是一個文化見證者，承載著特定社區的記憶、智慧與美學傳統。他的裝置不是簡單的展示，而是一場對話——邀請觀眾重新看待那些被忽視的創造力、被邊緣化的美學。
同時，將當代社會的迫切議題融入創作，使這些歷史的、文化的物件被賦予新的、當下的意義。這正是創作實踐的核心洞察：真正的藝術創新不來自於對傳統的遺棄或對文化的挪用，而來自於對多元傳統的真誠傾聽、尊重與當代對話。
