The Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department periodically releases information on the poverty situation within our city. An analysis can be found here. The department tables list a pre-intervention, purely theoretical assumption of 1.65 million “poor” people (a poverty rate of 23.6%). This percentage is reduced to 7.9% after applying all selected intervention measures including recurrent cash, in-kind, and non-recurrent cash. The poverty line in Hong Kong Dollars in 2020 is $4,400 for a one person household. With a 2021 population census result of 7.41 million, Faith in Love is an active participant of poverty intervening measures that provides poverty alleviation and emotional support to the Hong Kong poverty situation for which the full report released in November 2021 can be found here.
